Aitik

Aitik is a copper mine in the Boliden AB and is about 20 kilometers southeast of the town of Gällivare in northern Sweden. It is one of Europe's largest open-pit copper mines. In addition to large amounts of copper, gold, silver and molybdenum are promoted in Aitik.

The ore mining began in 1968 with a production of two million tonnes. Since then, the degradation was gradually increased up to 18 million tons annually. 2010, a new extension of the Aitikmine was completed and production is expected to double by 2014 to 36 million tons.
