The name comes from the Basque language. He probably goes back to the Basque word " Aita " (Eng. Father, Lord ), but there is also the verb " Aitor (tu) " (Eng. confess ). The Basque writer Agustín Chaho (1811-1858) invented the name in his work La leyenda de Aitor (Eng. The Legend of Aitor ). In this work, Aitor is a God whose seven sons founded the seven provinces of the Basque Country. It is believed that Chaho the name from Basque " ation Zemeak " (Eng. sons good parents; synonym for Hidalgo ), which is often called " Aitoren Zemeak " written borrowed by it as " Aitor -en " (English decomposed by Aitor ), so that was " Aitor -en Zemeak " (Eng. sons of Aitor ).
