Aizac

Aizac is a commune of 152 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the region Rhône -Alpes. It is located in the department of Ardèche. The inhabitants are called Aizacois and Aizacoises.

Geography

Aizac is surrounded by the mountains of the Cevennes and is part of the Regional Natural Park of Monts d' Ardèche. After Vals- les- Bains is 12 km, to Antraigues -sur- Volane 4 km away. Nearest large city is in Aubenas 12 kilometers southeast. The river Bezorgues crosses the municipality. The municipality consists of 16 outlying hamlets and the main town Aizac.

History

The history of the community is strongly associated with the eponymous family Aizac who also participated in the Crusades and was first mentioned in the 11th century.

Attractions

The volcanism in the Cévennes is still present today. This is confirmed by the extinct volcano Coupe d' Aizac in 808 meters of altitude, from which one can enjoy a panoramic view over the municipality.
