Allen Lloyd Jones ( born June 2, 1978 in Gainesville, Georgia, United States), better known as AJ Styles is an American professional wrestler. From May 2002 to December 2013 he was at the North American wrestling promotion Total Nonstop Action Wrestling under contract.

Private life

Allen Jones is married to the teacher Wendy. Together they have three sons, Ajay Covell, Avery and Albey.

Jones is privately good friends with wrestler Daniel Covell.

Background in sports

Jones attended Anderson College in Anderson, South Carolina with a partial scholarship for wrestling.

Career

He was trained by Rick Michaels and debuted on 15 February 1999 under the ring name Mr. Olympia in the National League Championship Wrestling. There, he won the Television and the Lightweight title.

He then moved on to the NWA Wildside and got the ring name AJ Styles. Between January 2000 and January 2001 Jones won the Television Championship title twice.

In early 2001 Jones joined then for World Championship Wrestling on, but was not taken with AOL Time Warner due to his contract following the takeover by the promotion World Wrestling Entertainment. He went out back to NWA Wildside. On 22 December 2001 Jones defeated his coach and mentor Rick Michaels and was NWA Wildside Heavyweight Championship. On 23 March 2002, at NWA Hardcore Hell, he lost the title to David Young.

Total Nonstop Action Wrestling

After further appearances in independent promotions, Jones signed in May 2002 a contract with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. On 26 June 2002 Jones became the first TNA X Division Champion. Along with Jerry Lynn he later won the NWA World Tag Team Champion. On 28 August 2002 Jones lost the X Division Champion Jerry Lynn, with whom he denied a Feud program in the sequence. On October 23, the year he won the X - Division Champion titles from Syxx -Pac. On November 6, he lost the title to Lynn a second time.

On 11 June 2003 he won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship title against Jeff Jarrett and Raven. On October 22, 2003 Jones lost the title back to Jeff Jarrett, with whom he subsequently led a program feud for the title. On 4 February 2004, he won the Abyss NWA World Tag Team Champion title he had to give up after the breakup of the team. In April, he again won the NWA World Heavyweight Champion Jarrett, but lost him on May 19 in Ron Killings. On June 9, he won the X Division Championship in a match against Frankie Kazarian. On July 28, Jones lost the title to Shane and Kazarian.

By the end of 2004, he feuded with the group " Kings of Wrestling ", where he formed a tag team with Randy Savage. Jones won January 16 again the X - Division Champion. During a feud with Christopher Daniels program Jones lost on March 13th of the year the title to him. On May 15, Jones won at the big event TNA Hard Justice for the third time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Jarrett before he lost it on June 19 at Slammiversary to Raven. On September 11, he won the TNA X Division Champion Samoa Joe and title against Daniels at the event for the fifth time TNA Unbreakable. In TNA Turning Point 2005 Jones had to give up on Samoa Joe the title eventually.

As of April, he formed a team with Daniels and they won on 18 June 2006, the NWA World Tag Team Championship. The tag team title they had to surrender on 24 August 2006 at the Tag Team Latin American Exchange ( LAX). The rematch won Jones and Daniels on September 24, 2006 at the TNA No Surrender event. On 22 October 2006 she lost her title at Bound for Glory in turn to LAX. Then he won the X Division title briefly for a sixth time.

In April 2007, Jones was made a member of the group Team Cage. Along with Travis Tomko he won in October, the TNA World Tag Team Championship, which they lost to Super Eric and Kaz in April 2008.

When TNA No Surrender 2009 major event Jones won for the first time TNA World Heavyweight Championship by Sting and Hernandez defeated the reigning Champion Kurt Angle, Matt Morgan. On 19 April 2010 Jones lost the title to Rob Van Dam.

Shortly thereafter, he became a member of the new group Fortune, which broke up in October 2011. He won on July 13, 2010 TNA iMPACT! by Rob Terry TNA Global Championship, which he already held as TNA Legends Championship for the second time. In the following iMPACT! Edition of title in TNA Television Championship was renamed. At Final Resolution on December 5, 2010, he lost the title to Douglas Williams.

At Slammiversary X June 10, 2012 Jones won with Kurt Angle Christopher Daniels and Kazarian TNA World Tag Team Championship, but lost it again at Impact Wrestling on June 28, 2012 to the same. After feuds with James Storm and Kurt Angle Jones participated in the Bound for Glory Series, he could decide for themselves. The subsequent match against Bully Ray at Bound for Glory on October 20, 2013, decided in his favor and won for the second time the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. Shortly after Jones left TNA with the title and defended it with other promotions, even though he was officially vakantiert. The Impact Wrestling Records on December 5, 2013, he returned shortly and lost a title unification match against the new champion Magnus now. Thereafter, the contract ran out officially and Jones left TNA.
