Aja (also: Adja, Ajagbe, HWE ) is the language of Adja. The Adja live mainly in Benin and Togo. In Benin Aja talk about 588 100 (SIL 2002) to 775,000 people in Togo about 152 300 (SIL 2002) to 171,000 people.

In Benin, the Aja - speakers live in the southwestern part of the country on the Mono River in the provinces Couffo Province ( Subprefäkturen: Aplahoué, Djakotomè, Dogbo, Klouékanmè, Lalo and Tovinklin ), Mono Province ( Subprefäkturen: Athiémè, come and Houéyogbé ) and Zou Province in the Subprefäkturen Djidja and Agbangnizoun.
