Ajaccio AOC

The wine region of Ajaccio is a named after the village appellation in the west of the island of Corsica. Since April 3, 1984, the area has the status of an Appellation d' Origine ( AOC short ). Before this date, the wines under the name Vin de - cores or Vin de Corse Ajaccio were - Coteaux d' Ajaccio marketed. The climate in combination with the poor soils and the slope of the vineyards allows only a very limited income, thus ensuring a good quality of soft material. The long-term average is at a very low yield of 34.50 hl / ha.

Geography

The growing area extends on slopes in a semicircle around the Gulf of Ajaccio and the Gulf of Sagone. The viticulture is focused primarily within the four river valleys of Liamone, Gravona, Prunelli and Tavaro. The vineyards are not higher than 380 m above sea level. NN located. Climate

The western area is through the winding valleys usually very protected in relation to the often waving, for some strong winds. The wines

  • The red wines are made at least 60 % of the main grape varieties Barbarossa, Sangiovese, which is, however, called on Corsica Niellucio, Sciaccarello ( its content is at least 40 %) and / or the white variety Vermentino. The dry red wine here has a minimum alcohol content of 12 vol %.

  • The white wine is produced mainly from the Vermentino, which is locally called Vermentinu or Malvasia de Corse. To a maximum of 20 % of the wine may Ugni Blanc which are attached. The juice must have before fermentation for at least 170 g / l sugar. The dry rosé here has a minimum alcohol content of 11.5 % by volume.

The white wine can be stored for about 2-3 years, but does not win by storage. It should be enjoyed at a drinking temperature of 8-10 ° C. The same applies to the rose.

The red wine should, however, be stored 3-7 years. The Trinktemeperatur located at 15-16 ° C.

The overall harvest limit is max. 45 hl / ha. A year transition-related adjustment is provided.
