Ajax Records

Ajax Records was a North American record label, which had its headquarters in Quebec, Canada and Chicago, Illinois, and from 1921 to 1926 was.

The label was a sub-label of Compo Company in Lachine, Quebec. Chief of Ajax Records was HS Berlin, the son of Emile Berliner gramophone pioneer. The company released its first album in October 1923, the last in the summer of 1925. For its time, the audio quality of the publications was very high. The headquarters of the company was Quebec, in Chicago, there was a branch, but not a recording studio. The studios of the company were located in Montreal and New York City. The plates were pressed in Quebec but only sold in the U.S.. The sales figures outside of the Northwest of the United States were low.

Among the artists who released on Ajax, Rosa Henderson, Edna Hicks, Viola McCoy, Monette Moore and Mamie Smith belonged. Besides these plates were also published on Ajax, whose master they received from Pathe Records and the Plaza Music Company.

Under the name Ajax Records today there is a small indie label in Chicago.
