Ajoy Kar

Ajoy Kar ( Bengali: অজয় কর, Ajay Kar, born March 27, 1914 in Kolkata, West Bengal, † January 25, 1985 ) was an Indian film director of the Bengali film.

He began in the early 1940s as a cameraman. He made his directorial debut in 1949 with Bamuner Meye. Kar turned successful entertainment films, both comedies and dramas, often with Uttam Kumar, Suchitra Sen, Chhabi Biswas and Utpal Dutt in lead roles. Among his best known films include Saptapadi (1961 ) - was also nominated at the International Film Festival Moscow for the Grand Prix, Harano Sur ( 1957), Shyamali (1956 ), Saat Pake Bandha (1963) and the film adaptation of Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyays Parineeta (1969 ).
