Ajuda National Palace

Today's Palácio Nacional da Ajuda, or Palácio Real, is in the municipality of Ajuda Lisbon, Portugal.

History

He was da Costa e Silva, built in its present form at the beginning of the 19th century by José in a classic style, after the original building burned down in 1795. When the royal family was forced to go into exile in Brazil in 1807, the construction work had not been completed.

The palace was again only permanent residence of the royal family after D. Luís I became king in 1861 and had an Italian princess, namely Maria Pia of Savoy married. The luxurious rooms are decorated with silk tapestries, Sevres porcelain and crystal chandeliers. The Sala Saxe is a particular example of royal luxury. It is a gift of the King of Saxony to Maria Pia, all pieces of furniture of this room are decorated with Meissen porcelain.

On the first floor of the huge banquet hall with crystal chandeliers and silk -covered chairs is stocked. The ceiling fresco shows an allegory of the birth of King D. João VI. At the other end of the palace, the neo-Gothic Studio of King D. Luís I, which is equipped with sophisticated carved furniture.
