AK-630
AK- 630 corvette Tarantul - I class
30 mm
The AK -630 is a fully automatic caliber 30 mm anti-aircraft gun for close range defense. It is produced in Russia.
Development
With the growing importance of anti-ship missiles in the 1970s, a powerful new system was required that could fight them effectively. Even the now outdated AK -230 system should be replaced. The development began in 1963, the testing phase lasted until 1966, the official launch took place on 6 January 1976.; two years later the system went into production. In 1983 it was decided to a modification of the system for AK- 630M1 -2. The combat power should be increased by an additional gun, but this idea was rejected.
1980 it has also been introduced with the AK- 306, a scaled down version that has been adapted for use on small ships. However, this variant has only one objective optical system and can not be coupled with a radar.
The system is currently being used except in Russia also in Bulgaria, China, Poland, Croatia, India and Romania.
Technology
Core of the AK- 630- system is the coated 30 -mm Gatling gun of the type Gryazev - Schipunow GSh -6- 30th This provides a very high rate of fire, which significantly increases the firepower of the system over the older AK- 230.
The AK- 630 is fully integrated into the self-defense system A -213 Wympel -A. This provides the AK -630 with radar and television cameras, the necessary target data, the range of the TV system against air targets is approximately 7 km. Normally a radar controls two AK- 630. The target control is fully automatic, with usually a technician monitors the system. The Cannon Fires either high explosive projectiles (HE ), or splinter projectiles ( HE- FRAG ).
