Akademgorodok

Akademgorodok (Russian Академгородок - " Academic town ") is a 1957 erected district of Novosibirsk in Siberia, Russia. The scientists city is located about 20 km south from the center of Novosibirsk, surrounded by birch and pine forests on the banks of the Ob Reservoir. Akademgorodok is considered the scientific center of Siberia and is the seat of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

History

An important role in the establishment of the district was played by the Russian physicist and mathematician Mikhail Alekseevich Lavrentiev ( Михаил Алексеевич Лаврентьев, 1900-1980 ), first chairman of the Siberian Branch of the Soviet Academy of Sciences. After the founding arisen within a very short time, numerous research institutions and the Novosibirsk State University.

Location

In Akademgorodok, the Novosibirsk State University is located, the largest university in Siberia. Also you can find the Medical Academy of Sciences.
