The Academy Gallery is an art gallery for contemporary art in Munich Underground Station University.

Building and location

The Academy Gallery is located in the north mezzanine of the Munich U -Bahn station University (output Academy Street ). The approximately 8 meters deep and 20 meters long exhibition space is separated by a glass wall from the rest of the lock floor and visible from there at full length.

Function

The Academy Gallery is a place free encounter with modern art for the citizens of Munich and has been assured by the quality of the exhibitions a place in the art scene of the city. The showroom also provides information about the work of the Academy and the achievements of their students. For the students of the Academy is the unusual presentation venue of their works - with random visitors from all walks of life instead of the usual exhibition audience - become a challenge and as such part of the teaching concept of the Academy.

At the end of each summer semester, annual exhibitions of students and graduates of the Academy of Fine Arts instead. In addition, there are so -called debutant exhibitions of not yet entered into appearance artists.

History

In 1986, began at the suggestion of the then rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich talks with the district committee Maxvorstadt, the Cultural Department of the City of Munich and the Munich municipal utility as host of the subway station on the establishment of the gallery. In 1989, the showroom has been set up; The first exhibition was of works by Eduardo Paolozzi. Later, the gallery was the students and graduates of the Academy of Fine Arts Munich reserved. After initially had decided on the exhibition program committees of faculty and students at the Munich Art Academy, since 1993 do the professors of the academy as changing curators. Between 1995 and 1998, the student council of the Academy of Art was responsible for the selection of works of art, since work professors and student council together again in the Exhibition Management.
