Akazome Emon

Akazome Emon (Japanese赤 染 卫 门; * around 956, † 1041 ) was a Japanese poet.

Life

Akazome was the daughter of Akazome no Tokimochi, from its position as palace guard ( emon ) is also derived their Notname. She was maid of honor of Rinshi, the wife of the ruler Fujiwara no Michinaga and their daughter Shoshi. Her husband was the historian Ōe no masahira.

Traditionally it is the - attributed authorship of the first Japanese narrative Eiga Monogatari - at least partially. This " story of glitz and glory" covers a period of 200 years, beginning with the reign of Emperor Uda and ending with the imperial period Horikawas, and at its center are the deeds of Fujiwara no Michinagas. Furthermore Akazome wrote a travel diary under the title Owari Kiko.

600 their waka poems were published in the Akazome emon shū collection. Other poems were admitted into official collections such Shui Wakashū. Akazome among the Thirty-Six Immortals of Poetry of the Middle Ages ( Chuko sanjūrokkasen ) and the Thirty-six female Immortals of Poetry ( Nyobo sanjūrokkasen ).
