Ã…ke Ohlmarks

Åke Joel Ohlmarks (* 1911 in Kristianstad, † 1984 in Crist di Niardo, Italy) was a Swedish translator, author and historian of religion.

From 1941 to 1945 he worked as a lecturer at the University of Greifswald. 1944 founded Ohlmarks the Religious Studies Institute in Greifswald together with the theologian Wilhelm Koepp, who sympathized with the Nazis.

An important research contribution are his studies on the problem of shamanism (Lund 1939).

He translated the Icelandic Eddas into Swedish. Is considered to be unequaled his translation of the third part of the Snorra Edda.

He also translated Shakespeare ( complete), JRR Tolkien, the Koran, Dante, Nostradamus and several other authors into Swedish.
