Åke Sellström

Åke Sellström (* 1948) is a Swedish scientist who specializes in chemical weapons.

UN operations

In the 1990s Sellström belonged to the United Nations Special Commission and supervised the destruction of Iraqi chemical weapons. In 2002, he returned to Iraq back to check there as a member of the UN Commission of Inquiry headed by Hans Blix, whether the country has started production of weapons of mass destruction again, but found no proof.

On March 26, 2013 Sellström was appointed by the UN Secretary-General to head a commission of inquiry to examine the allegation of chemical weapons missions in Syrian Civil War site.
