Akeman Street

History

The Akeman Street was with those in the 1st century AD, the Romans developed the new Roman province of Britannia ( Britain) one of the highways. From 1 AD to the 4th century BC along the road produced numerous population centers. In 1753 the Akeman Street fell sharply in importance as a little further north of Oxford on the connection Cirencester to Bath was expanded. Today the A follows 411 for long stretches of the old Roman road.
