It has a clearly structured definition by the following streets: Dokkveien in the east, Munkedamsveien (Ring 1) to the north and the unnamed road to Filipstadtkai in the West. Thus Aker Brygge is bordered by Vika in the east and north, Filip city in the west, Tjuvholmen in the southwest and the Oslo Fjord in the south.

History and Development

Aker Brygge is located on the former shipyard Akers Mekaniske verksted AS, which was closed in 1982. The former company was founded in 1954, when the area was known under the name of Holmen. Since the dawn of the early 18th century here were established some industries and a town edge development arose.

The development of Aker Brygge was carried out in four stages of the real estate company Aker Eiendom AS. Part of the old industrial buildings had to be demolished, but the majority of the large factory buildings was converted into office space. Through the architectural firm Telje - Torp - Aasen, the first phase was completed in 1986. 1998, the fourth and last stage with the construction of Storebrand's insurance company was then completed on Munkedamsveien. The entire building mass comprises 260,000 m².

Aker Brygge today

The district is today a meeting place for entertainment, dining and shopping and is visited annually by almost 12 million people. Here are some 70 shops and 40 cafés, restaurants, bars and nightclubs. In addition to the resulting residential and office space is also the cinema and Felix Latter / Standup Norge has settled.
