Aketi

Aketi, known until 1966 Aketi port Chaltin (after Louis Napoléon Chaltin ), is a town and territory in the district of Lower Uele in the eastern province of the Democratic Republic of Congo. She has more than 150,000 residents who speak Lingala.

From the 1930s to the northeast of the country with the Congolese branch line ( Vicicongo ) has been explored from Aketi because the Itimbri upstream is no longer navigable further because of the waterfalls. The main workshops and the operational center of these railway lines are to this day in Aketi. After the Second World War the line was extended to Bumba on the Congo.
