Akinori Nakayama

Akinori Nakayama (Japanese中山 彰 规Akinori Nakayama, born March 1, 1943 in Aichi Prefecture ) is a former Japanese gymnast. He participated in the Olympic Games in Mexico (1968 ) and Munich ( 1972) and won six gold medals. On 21 May 2005, he was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.

Sporting successes

Akinori Nakayama was the most successful male participants of the Olympic Games in 1968. Overall, he won at the Olympic Games six times gold medals, two silver and two bronze medals (10 medals). He is on the all-time best list of Olympic Summer Games in 18th place and is after his compatriot Sawao Katō the most successful Asian athletes at the Games (as of 2013). In addition to Olympic glory he was seven -time world champion.
