Akkajaure

Akkajaure is a reservoir on the upper reaches of the Stora Luleälven the Swedish national park Stora Sjöfallet the province of Norrbotten County.

The lake is located in the national park Stora Sjöfallet. Its water surface varies 94-242 km ², the water level 423-453 m above sea level. NN; the average depth is 30 m, the largest peak at 92 m, the maximum storage volume of 4.65 km ³. Outflow is through the two walk for hikers Suorvadämme - only connection between the two national parks - with their hydroelectric power generation facilities.

Worth mentioning is the natural outflow of Akkajaure through the majestic waterfall Stora Sjöfallet in the same place.

On the southwest shore of the lake is the Akkamassiv.

An important tributary of the Akkajaure is the Vuojatätno, which flows to the reservoir from the southwest and drains the area of the Padjelanta National Park and the western Sarek National Park.

The north shore of Akkajaure is accessible by a road to the east. A passenger ferry across the Akkajaure joining them at the south shore near the Vuojatätno estuary, which is used by hikers trekking the Padjelantaleden and Akka and Sarek mountain region.
