Aksu, Kazakhstan

Aqsu ( Kazakh Ақсу - Power, Russian Аксу / Aksu ) is a city in the east of Kazakhstan in the Pavlodar region. It has about 50,000 inhabitants. The name Aksu is used by Turkic peoples for several rivers in the distribution area, which also include the Kazakhs. In Chinese is his name Akesu Shi, for the same city Aksu in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China, through which the Tarim River flows.

Geographical Location

Aqsu located in the Pavlodar region about 50 km south of the regional capital Pavlodar on the left bank of the river Irtysh.

The city has 48 337 inhabitants.

History

The city was founded in 1897 as a settlement Glinka ( Глинка ). 1913, the town was renamed in Yermak ( Ермак ) and got granted town rights in 1961. Since 1993, the city bears its present name.

Economy

The city's economy is closely linked to the coal reserves in the area of Ekibastus.
