Akun Island

Akun ( aleutian: Akungan ) is an uninhabited island of the Krenitzin Islands and is one of the Aleutian Islands. The approximately 167 km ² large island lies east of Akutan and southwest of Unimak. The most striking survey of the 23 km long and 16 km wide island is the extinct volcano of St. Gilbert ( 818 m).

In 1928, the island was known by a spectacular rescue of the U.S. Coast Guard. This saved all the passengers and crew of the sailing ship Falkland star, who had been shipwrecked in thick fog on the coast.

Today, feral cows are native to the island.
