AkzoNobel is a global major companies headquartered in the Netherlands. Its shares are listed on the Amsterdam stock exchange Euro Next.

History

Today AkzoNobel Group can look back on a long history. In 1866, Alfred Nobel invented dynamite and founded in a row in 20 countries, companies and laboratories. 1871 originated in Sweden, the company Nobel Industries after a merger with the company Bofors.

In 1911, in the Netherlands ( Ede ), the synthetic fiber factory Algemeene Kunstzijde Unie NV (AKU ) was founded. These merged in 1969 with the resulting in Hengelo in 1918 Koninklijke Zwanenberg Organon ( KZO ) - the new group was called Akzo. In 1992, the Greek paint manufacturer Vivechrom was purchased.

1998 AkzoNobel bought the UK company Courtaulds Ltd.. Their products containing industrial paints and various kinds of fibers. The chemical fiber area was sold together with the own activities of AkzoNobel under the name Acordis to CVC Capital Partners (CVC ).

On March 12, 2007, Organon pharmaceutical business was sold for 11 billion euros at Schering- Plough.

In August 2007, was informed that AkzoNobel will take over the company ICI for approximately twelve billion euro. This acquisition was completed on 2 January 2008. The divisions Adhesives ( glues) and Electronic Materials of ICI were sold in April 2008 for four billion euros to Henkel.

The Chief Executive Officer ( CEO) Hans Wijers announced his ride back to the 2012 Annual General Meeting. Successor is Ton Büchner.
