Al Akhbar (Lebanon)

Al - Akhbar (Arabic الأخبار ) is a Lebanese newspaper. It appears since 2006 in Beirut, in Arabic, since 2011 there is an additional Internet edition in English. Its current chief editor is Ibrahim al-Amin. The printed edition is 10,000-15,000 copies.

History and self- understanding

The newspaper was founded by the Lebanese journalist Joseph Samaha, the first printed edition was published on 14 August 2006. Samaha goal was a newspaper, which upholds the highest journalistic standards and is also faithful to the principles of the anti-imperialist struggle, progressive politics and freedom of expression. Owner and principal donor is the London-based investment banker Hassan Khalil.

As the only Lebanese newspaper al- Akhbar refused a request of the U.S. Ambassador Jeffrey Feltman on a meeting with the editorial board. This threw the newspaper before then, almost standing of Hezbollah.
