Al Aronowitz

Al Aronowitz ( born May 20, 1928 in Bordentown, New Jersey; † August 1, 2005 in Elizabeth (New Jersey); actually Alfred Gilbert Aronowitz ) was an American music journalist and is considered a pioneer of rock and pop journalism.

In 1950 he completed a journalism degree at Rutgers University in New Jersey and worked at several local newspapers before he got a job at the New York Post.

Aronowitz wrote in 1959 a highly acclaimed twelve-part series on the beat music for the New York Post. Since the 1950s, he was in contact with alternative American writers and later also to music stars like Bob Dylan, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix. In 1964 he brought Bob Dylan and the Beatles together. Aronowitz was there when Dylan wrote the song Mr. Tambourine Man. He also wrote a book about the Beatles and Dylan, titled Bob Dylan and the Beatles and another entitled Bobby Darin Was a Friend of Mine.

Last Aronowitz working on a book about Mick Jagger and Miles Davis titled Mike and Miles.

Al Aronowitz died at the age of 77 from cancer.
