Al-Bakri

Abu Ubaid Abdullah ibn Abdulaziz ibn Muhammad al- Bakri (Arabic أبو عبيد عبد الله بن عبد العزيز بن محمد البكري, DMG Abū ʿ Ubayd ʿ Abd Allāh b ʿ Abd al - ʿ Azeez b Muḥammad al - Bakri, .. * 1014 in Huelva, † 1094 ) was a spanish -Arab geographer and historian.

His father was governor of the province of Huelva.

He spent his whole life in Spain, living in Córdoba and never traveled to the places of which he wrote.

He wrote about Europe, North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. His main works were Kitaab al - Masālik wa-l - Mamālik ( 1068, Book of Kingdoms and paths ) and Mu ʿ Djam. The first was based on literature and reports of merchants and travelers such as Yusuf al - Warraq and Abraham ben Jacob. His works are known for their objectivity. In each area he describes the people their customs, as well as geography, climate and capitals. He also offered several anecdotes to the respective Gebieten.Teile his main work has been lost.

The lunar crater Al- Bakri was named after him.
