Al-Baqi'

Baqi ʿ al - Gharqad (Arabic بقيع الغرقد, DMG Baqi ʿ al - Ġarqad ), also Dschannat al - Baqi ʿ (Arabic جنة البقيع, DMG Ǧannat al - Baqi ʿ, the garden of al - Baqi ʿ ') or simply al - Baqi ʿ, is the first and oldest Islamic cemetery of Medina, Saudi Arabia. The cemetery is located next to the Prophet's Mosque (al- masǧid to - Nabawi ), the largest mosque in Medina with the grave of Muhammad.

Importance

In this cemetery many relatives and companions of the Prophet are buried. Among other things, there are also the tombs of the Imams of the Twelvers following on this site:

More people are buried there, Ibrahim ibn Muhammad and Abbas ibn Abd al - Muttalib.

Larger mausoleums were Abd al Aziz ibn Saud after the Saudi conquest of Medina (see Wahhabism ).
