Al Bates

Al Bates (Alfred Hilborn Bates, born April 24, 1905 in Philadelphia, † June 9, 1999 ) was an American long jumper.

In 1928 he qualified as a U.S. runner-up for the Olympic Games in Amsterdam. There he won the bronze medal with 7.40 m behind compatriot Ed Hamm ( 7.73 m) and the Haitian Silvio Cator (7.58 m).

In 1930 and 1931 he was U.S. champion. His personal best of 7.58 m he set up in Cambridge on 25 May 1928.
