Al - Futaisi (Arabic الفطيسي, DMG al - Fuṭaisī ) is a 50 -square-mile island about eight kilometers southwest of Abu Dhabi.

Most of the island, which is ten kilometers long and five kilometers wide, consists of a nature reserve, but there is also a holiday resort, which is dedicated to ecotourism on Futaisi.

The original settlement of Futaisi dates back several hundred years, which could be proved by the discovery of old wells, an ancient mosque and a grave space. The island has a very diverse flora and fauna of the region, among others, are gazelle, dugongs, fish eagle and spike -tailed Agama on and around Futaisi. The island now has no drinking water sources, however, have so far 22 ancient wells are discovered.

Futaisi is connected by no bridges to the mainland, but has a small airport and a boat dock.

A special feature of eccentric characters and megalomania is the investment of a channel path from the Latin letters in the south of the island, which result in the message " HAMAD ". The individual letters are nearly 500 feet high, the channel width is 44 meters and the total width of the font extends over 1700 meters, so that the word from a great height, as well as on satellite images (eg Google Maps) is readable.
