Al-Gaddafi International Prize for Human Rights

The Gaddafi International Prize for Human Rights was a 1989-2010 annual award granted, donated by and named after the former Libyan leader Muammar al - Gaddafi. The prize was awarded according to the Organization, among others, persons who have committed to the peaceful struggle for the freedom of people and respect for human rights and fought against racial discrimination.

The award was presented during the first years of the Swiss non -governmental organization ( NGO), North-South XXI managed on a mandate basis. Their task was to propose winners among others. Named NGO was supported by the Swiss Foundation Institute North-South pour le dialogue interculturel, as its vice- president Jean Ziegler served from 2002 to 2009. This marked the Gaddafi Human Rights Prize "anti - Nobel Prize in the Third World ." Dama Lige media reports, such as the news agency UPI or Time magazine, he had the jury heard that he has today as " objectively false". He had refused even to his own 2002 prize awarded. According to the NZZ Ziegler said to have been, however, in 1989 called as a member not only of the Prize Committee, but also the seven-member Executive Bureau of the Preisauslober and still listed in September 2010 as a member of the executive office.
