Al Herman

Al Herman ( born March 15, 1927 in Topton, Pennsylvania, USA, † June 18, 1960 in West Haven, Connecticut) was an American race car driver.

Herman started 1953-1960 in 11 races for AAA National Series. His best finish was a seventh place he reached in a Silnes - Offenhauser 1955 in Indianapolis, which gave him the title of " Rookie of the Year " earned. In the same year he was severely injured in an incident when his vehicle burst into flames in Milwaukee and he suffered severe burns. Overall, he started five times in Indianapolis. During this time, the Indianapolis 500 was a part of the Formula 1 Grand Prix series, therefore, are also five Grand Prix starts in his statistics.

Otherwise, he drove mainly Midget and Sprintcar racing. In June 1960, he died after an accident.
