The location of Al- Hoceima (Arabic الحسيمة, DMG al - Ḥusayma, Spanish Alhucemas ) with its 256 723 inhabitants is located in Morocco and is the capital of the province of Al Hoceïma. 155 km east of Ceuta and 100 km west of Melilla.
History
1921 Spanish soldiers had been killed in Rifkrieg at the Battle of Annual over 10,000. As a result, the Spanish troops withdrew from almost all since 1909 conquered positions, then the cleared area of the Rif Republic specifically with mustard gas (Lost) was contaminated.
On September 8, 1925 Spanish troops landed in a bay at this point in 1926 and founded the later Al- Hoceima as Villa Sanjurjo. The town was as entirely Spanish Morocco until independence in 1956 under the Spanish administration.

Earthquake
On 24 February 2004 an earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale destroyed, with its epicenter 15 km southwest of al - Hoceima lay, large parts of the surrounding area of the city, including several villages. Here, 560 people were killed. In the city itself there was only minor damage.

The Cherif El Idrissi Airport is approximately 9 km south of al - Hoceima.
