Al Jazeera America

Al Jazeera America is an English-language news channel which commenced broadcasting on 20 August 2013. He is headquartered in New York, with 12 additional offices, among others in Washington, DC, Chicago, Detroit, Nashville, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Unlike its international sister channel Al Jazeera English, Al Jazeera America is primarily intended to cover topics that are interesting and relevant for Americans. He takes over the broadcast slots and frequencies of Current TV; a TV channel Al Jazeera has acquired in early 2013.

Program

Al Jazeera America will broadcast 24 hours, mostly news and articles on current issues. The focus is directed specifically to events in countries of the global south, mainly from Arab states and the Near / Middle East. The transmitter is designed to complement or alternative to international news channels, the report mainly from the northern hemisphere.

Staff

The assembled in the summer of 2013 transmitter leadership consists mostly of Americans who have the relevant experience from major broadcasters. AJAM is headed by Kate O'Brian, who had previously worked for over 30 years with ABC News, most recently responsible for news as deputy station chief. As deputy to three former senior editors of CNN, CBS News and MSNBC were appointed in July 2013. From Current TV around 200 employees were taken, about a quarter of the target for the first broadcast workforce.

On the website of the radio station no live stream will be available from first broadcast. However, Al Jazeera America should be also be received on the YouTube channel of Al Jazeera America. The transmitter will release its broadcasts and short messages on YouTube, where they are free to view.
