Al Keller

Al Keller ( * April 11, 1920 in Alexander, USA, † November 19, 1961 in Phoenix) drove in the period from 1955 to 1959 in the Formula 1 During this time, the Indianapolis 500 was a part of the Formula 1 Grand Prix series.

His best starting position he achieved in 1957 with an eighth on a Kurtis Kraft of Pat Clancy teams. But in this race, he left by accident. Keller started only at this race in Formula 1, otherwise he drove in the U.S. race.

From 1949 to 1956 he competed in 29 of the NASCAR race. In 1954, he was able to win twice. He was there the first rider to win on a non -crafted in the USA make, a Jaguar in the Grand National road -race at the Linden Airport in New Jersey. It was not until 54 years later, Kyle Busch won with a Toyota at Atlanta 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway again with a non- American brand.

From 1954 to 1961 he competed in the precursor series of the Champ Car series of the United States Automobile Club and the American Automobile Association where he sailed into 39 race 13 times among the top ten. His best individual placings were two second places and the 5th in the final rankings of 1961.

Al Keller died on November 19, 1961 as a result of his injuries in a racing accident at the Arizona State Fairgrounds.
