Al Morgan (musician)

Albert Morgan ( * August 19, 1908 New Orleans, † April 14, 1974 in Los Angeles ) was an American jazz musician.

The bassist and tuba player Al Morgan came from a musical family in New Orleans. His brothers were also active as a musician ( Sam and Isaiah as a trumpeter, Andrew clarinet ). He first played the clarinet before he switched to the bass instruments in 1919 ( lessons with Simon Marrero ). He began his career in the 1920s in the orchestras of Buddy Petit and Lee Collins. He played in the 1930s briefly at Otto Hardwick, then take with Cab Calloway and going on tour. Then he looked at Les Hite, and then form their own band. In the 1940s he was active in Wingy Manone, Eddie Condon, Chu Berry and Max Kaminsky.
