Al-Muwaffaq

Al - Muwaffaq (* 842, † June 2, 891, . Arabic الموفق, طلحة بن جعفر, أبو أحمد, DMG al - Muwaffaq, Talha b Ǧa ʿ far, Abū Aḥmad ) was 875-891 Regent of the ruling Abbasid caliph under al - Mu'tamid.

He was a brother of the Caliph al - Mu'tamid ( 870-892 ) and took over 875 head of the imperial administration in Baghdad. Soon he had but the weak al - Mu'tamid largely suppressed by the government.

Under al - Muwaffaq the Abbasid Caliphate could be stabilized. So he suggested to 883 the revolt of the sandj down in southern Iraq, increased control over the provinces and also fought the Tulunids in Syria energetic.

Since al - Muwaffaq increasingly suffering from elephantiasis, his son Abu l - Abbas Ahmad since 889 the government. After the death of al - Muwaffaq (5 June 891 ) reached Abu l - Abbas Ahmad al- Mu'tamid also officially announced the transfer of the offices of his father. Later, Abu l - Abbas Ahmad al - Mu'tadid as could enforce bi- ' llah ( 892-902 ) as caliph.
