After riots erupted in Iran, al - Basasiri with Fatimid support the occupation of Baghdad in 1059. al - Qa'im was taken prisoner and was interned outside of Baghdad. The official insignia of the Abbasids were sent to the Fatimids in Cairo.

Although the Seljuk Turks conquered Baghdad in 1060 and again enthroned al - Qa'im again as caliph, but now the Abbasids were under the auspices of the Seljuks. al - Qa'im had dominion togrıl Begs legitimize by officially appointed him to the Sultan and he transferred the secular rule. In addition, he had to marry a daughter with togrıl Beg. The followers of al - Qa'im were, as already under the Buyids, politically powerless. Next Caliph in Baghdad was al - Muqtadi ( 1075-1094 ).
