Policy

As Nusseibeh to a peaceful solution of the Middle East conflict, he tolerates no violent actions of his students or radical Islamic influence on campus life. The University operates in al - Bireh educational television station Al -Quds Educational TV, the first time in 1997, it dared to criticize the mismanagement of the Palestinian Authority under Yasser Arafat. In the summer courses for guests are offered, where Arabic or Palestinian history is taught.

History

While other Palestinian universities were created in the 70s of the 20th century, was one such undesirable in Jerusalem. Although most of the building is now outside the city limits, the main office in East Jerusalem was left. There have been several attempts to close the university with legal means. An attack point is that the university is working in Jerusalem without Israeli license and that it was a forbidden establishment of the Palestinian Authority. Despite or because of the peace initiatives of the President, according to Nusseibeh, the university was always a target of actions of the Israeli police and army. On 29 March 2002, the facilities were occupied in al - Bireh by the Israeli army and severely damaged. The School of Public Health was devastated and used as a temporary prison. The facility housed in the same building from the al -Quds TV was thrown out the window and destroyed.

On 10 July 2002, the Directorate building in East Jerusalem was closed with the office by Sari Nusseibeh on the orders of the Minister Uzi Landau security and confiscated computers and folders. Substance that was "prohibited activities for the PLO " because Nusseibeh was their representative for Jerusalem at this time. Exactly on that day he was in Athens to sign a Friedensintiative with Ami Ayalon. After international protests Landau had ten days later pick up again the lock of the office. The data were analyzed by the domestic intelligence service and returned only later. Because of the restrictive controls on the border of Jerusalem, it is no longer possible for some students to achieve their faculties within the city limits. Some courses were therefore subject to Beit Hanina to Abu Dis to be laid.

2003 Israel wanted to build his defensive wall right through the campus of Abu Dis. This was justified by the specified therein border between Jerusalem and Abu Dis and a planned bypass road there. Thus, the campus would have lost a third of its surface. 34 days of peaceful protests, mainly because the proposed division of the sports field, led to the intervention of U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and prompted Israel, the wall to the west, but to build right next to the university. Now the sports field is a part of the campus, albeit behind the 8 -meter-high wall of concrete. If the road but yet to be built, however, the wall must be moved.

Because of the poor economic situation of the Palestinians, there is currently funding problems. The University is funded by tuition fees and donations. For many it is not possible to pay higher contributions, which is why it always comes back to problems in the payment of the salaries of employees.

The reputation of the medical school is one of the best in the entire Arab world. For several years, however, the Israeli Ministry of Health graduates of al - Quds University refuses to participate in the Israeli admission test, which allows foreign doctors to work in Israel. This on the grounds that the University is not abroad - not because of the location in Abu Dis, but because of the building in East Jerusalem. In East Jerusalem, but there is because of the lack of doctors there great need for Palestinian doctors.

On the night of 28th to February 29th, 2012 officials of the Israeli Ministry of Communications joined by a raid by Israeli soldiers the al - Quds TV station in al- Bireh, confiscated transmission equipment and computers. The reason for this lack of a license and unauthorized use of frequencies were given.
