Al-Shahrastani

Ash- Schahrastānī (* 1076 in Shah Rastan, † 1153 ) was an Islamic Religionsgeschichtler the Middle Ages. He comes from Shah Rastan, a town in Khorasan, Iran. One of the most famous works is the Kitab al - Schahrastanis Milal wa al - Nihal.

Engl The Book of Sects and Creeds ) is a study of the known sects in Islam until the early 12. century. In the work of numerous individual biographies are included. It lists both dignitaries of the Sunnis and the Shiites.

The work was completely translated by Theodor Haarbrücker from Arabic into German and provided with explanatory notes.

A French translation of this work by D. Gimaret, G. Monnot, J. Jolivet (1986 ) was sponsored by UNESCO and published in 1993 in its second edition.
