Al- Wakra (Arabic الوكرة, DMG al - Wakra ) is a port city and capital of the municipality of Al- Wakra in Qatar in the Persian Gulf, 18 km south of Doha.
There live 79 457 inhabitants ( 2010). Formerly the port was used mainly as a fishing and pearl trading port. Along the docks boats ( dhows ) are built by hand today.
Al- Wakra offers sights a museum in the old fort, parts of the old city walls, some old houses and two mosques in the old style Wahhabism.
In al - Wakrah Sports Club Al- Wakrah SC also is located.
