Al-Watan Party (Tunisia)

The homeland Party (Arabic حزب الوطن Hizb al Watan, French Parti de la Patrie ) is a Tunisian political party with centrist tendency.

History

The foundation of the home country party was announced on 19 February 2011, its official approval was granted on 9 March of the same year.

It was founded by the Tunisian revolution by personalities from former prime circles, including Mohamed and Ahmed Jegham Friaâ. The latter come from the ranks of the Constitutional Democratic Rally Party (RCD) of ousted President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali. On June 13, Friaâ announced his resignation from the party after he was criticized and was designated as an obstacle to the progress of the party ..

The home country party experienced then a conflict between Jegham and Mohamed Béchir Mehalla. Both organized an extraordinary congress and proclaimed himself as the legitimate Secretary General. In the election for the Constituent Assembly in October 2011, Jegham allied with the Parti réformiste Destourien and the Parti de l' avenir within the squad list of a National Union, but which received no seats; Mehalla however, presented an independent list in Monastir under the name Assedq ( sincerity ), which received very few votes.

Jegham announced on December 5 to the formation of a new party with the name Free Fatherland, whose Chairman he became. This happened due to massive party outlets and the creation of a new formation of many dropped members under the name of Al Watan.
