Al Wilson (singer)

Al Wilson ( born June 19, 1939 in Meridian, Mississippi, † April 21, 2008 in Fontana, California ) was an American soul musician.

Biography

The singing career of Al Wilson began in his youth. As a member of a church choir he was already twelve years old, the head of a gospel quartet. After school and moving to California once followed a few odd jobs and a two-year military service, during which he also sang in a choir soldiers.

After that he appeared in clubs in Los Angeles and eventually joined the band Jewels. Through two other bands, the scooter and the Souls, he finally came in 1968, Johnny Rivers ' Soul City record label and made his first solo recordings. His first hit was the same year the written and recorded by Oscar Brown Jr. called The Snake. This title was also a success in the UK northern soul movement and came there - but only a few years later - in the charts.

After the initial success, but it took five years before the U.S. was followed by a second album with Weighing In. The first single of the Show and Tell. This song was originally recorded by Johnny Mathis. Al Wilson had his biggest hit with the song; it sold over a million copies and made it to No. 1 on the Billboard charts. Thereupon, the album sold over two million copies and was awarded a platinum record.

Already in the following year saw another album La La Peace Song whose title song was another Top 40 hit. The album song Baby I Want Your Body was also Wilson's biggest R & B hit, and was listed in the R & B charts at # 3, even if he did not come into the pop charts.

In 1976, the album I've Got a Feeling followed. The title song of this album came in the official pop charts at number 29; it was the last chart entry of Al Wilson.

In 1979 he published with Count the Days his last album, which was only moderately successful. Since the 1980s, he was a club and concert singers go.
