Alaaeldin Abouelkassem

ʿ ʾ ad - Dīn Abū Alā l - Qāsim, also Alaaeldin Abouelkassem, Arabic علاء الدين أبو القاسم, DMG ʿ ʾ ad - Dīn Abū Alā l - Qāsim ( born November 25, 1990 in Sétif, Algeria) is an Egyptian fencer.

ʿ ʾ ad - Dīn Abū Alā l - Qāsim grew up the son of an Egyptian father and an Algerian mother in Alexandria. At the age of eight he began the sport of fencing in the Al- Al- Selah Sakandry Club, a sports club in Alexandria, which was founded in 1892. He became a member of the Egyptian National Team in 2005; In the same year he won a bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games in Almería.

Achievements

2008 won Abū l - Qāsim, left-handed, the Championnats d' Afrique in Casablanca, Dakar, 2009 and 2011 in Cairo.

At the 2011 World Fencing Championships in Catania took Abū l - Qāsim fifth in the foil, after he had previously become Junior World Champion in Baku a year. The Pan Arab Games 2011 in Doha, he won two times gold, in single and in the team competition.

2012 won Abū l - Qāsim again the Championnats d' Afrique in Casablanca. At the 2012 Olympic Games in London Abū l - Qāsim won the silver medal in the foil. In the second round he had the four -time German champion Peter Joppich defeated in the semifinals and the South Koreans, Choi Byung- chul. In the final, he lost against the Chinese Lei Sheng. Thus Abū l - Qāsim was the first Egyptian to a medal for his country took in these games, as well as the first African in Olympic history, which won a medal in fencing.
