Alabama Territory

The Alabama Territory was an organized territory of the United States, which was created from the eastern part of the Mississippi Territory on March 3, 1817 just before a Mississippi State was.

The Alabama Territory had during its existence as a single territory of the United States capital, St. Stephens on the Tombigbee River, and a territorial governor, William Wyatt Bibb.

Nearly two years after the founding, on December 14, 1819 Alabama was admitted as the 22nd U.S. state in the Union.
