Aladdin Free Public License

The Aladdin Free Public License, short AFPL, was developed by L. Peter German to license Ghostscript and is derived from the GNU General Public License. It differs substantially but the following points:

  • The source code must be included with any distribution.
  • The software may not be sold; well as lifting a copy or service charge is not permitted.

The prohibition was for the purpose that providers wanted to sell the Ghostscript commercially with their product, must purchase a paid license of the software. So a fairer pay the developer should be achieved.

Ghostscript is no longer marketed since 2006 under the AFPL.
