Alain Decaux

Alain Decaux ( born July 23, 1925 in Lille, France ) is a French historian and broadcaster. Especially for numerous television and radio broadcasts on the subject of history, he worked closely with his colleague André Castelot, but also with Jean Tulard and Marcel Jullian.

Life

After his schooling at the Lycée Faidherbe in Lille, and in Paris at the Lycée Janson de Sailly Decaux went to law school in Paris. He attended lectures in history at the Sorbonne - purely out of personal interest and no intention to include in it a degree. In 1946 he began to write the first historical article. His first book, " Louis XVII retrouvé " (Eng. Louis XVII rediscovered. ) He published in 1947. At 25, he received an award from the Académie française for his second work " Letizia ".

Early on, Decaux enthusiastic for audiovisual media, and founded in 1951 with André Castelot the weekly broadcast radio show " La Tribune de l' Histoire " (Eng. ( free) forum history), which was a great success until its end in 1997. In 1957 he founded with Stellio Lorenzi and André Castelot the French TV show " La caméra explore le temps " (Eng. The camera explores the time), which aired until 1966. On February 15, 1979 Alain Decaux was elected member of the Académie française, and won the seat No. 9, succeeding Jean Guéhenno.

In 2005, with Frédéric Beigbeder Richard Millet and Jean -Pierre Decaux Thiollet guest writer was at the Book Fair in Beirut.
