Alain Giletti

Alain Giletti ( born September 11, 1939 in Bourg -en- Bresse ) is a former French figure skater who started in a single run. He is the world champion of 1960 and the European champion from 1955 to 1957 and 1960 until 1961.

Giletti won from 1955 to 1957 as well as 1960 and 1961 European champion five times and finished four times in the European Championships in second place, 1953 and 1954 behind the Italian Carlo Fassi, 1958 and 1959 behind Karol Divin from Czechoslovakia. In 1961, he won the European title ahead of his compatriot Alain Calmat, which replaced the European Champions from 1962 Giletti.

1960 Giletti could win the world title in figure skating, after he had in 1954 and 1958 already finished third and in 1955, 1957 and 1959 in fourth. With his victory, he finished the twelve -year string of Americans at world championships.

Giletti was the first French European champion and the first French world champion in men's singles.

At the Olympics, he finished the 1956 fourth behind three Americans. In 1960 he was again fourth, where he was tied with the winner of the bronze medal, the Canadian Donald Jackson.

Giletti started as a pair skater with Michèle Allard. In 1956, she was French champion in pair skating.
