Alain Hutchinson

Alain Hutchinson ( born December 10, 1949 in Schaerbeek / Schaerbeek ) is a Belgian politician for the Parti Socialiste (PS). From 2004 to 2009 he was a member of the European Parliament.

Life

Hutchinson worked as a social worker before he devoted himself to politics. From 1972 to 1987 he was secretary of the employees of the General Association of the Belgian trade union federation ( FGTB ) and was appointed in 1988 to the Head of Cabinet of the Minister of Social Affairs and Health of the French Community of Belgium and in 1989 Head of Cabinet of the Prime Minister of the Brussels Capital Region. Subsequently, he was from 1999 to 2004 Secretary of Housing and energy of the Brussels -Capital Region. From 1988 to 1999 he was Assistant Secretary of Education and Culture of the municipality of Saint-Gilles.

2004 Hutchinson was elected to the European Parliament. He was a member of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament and Deputy Chairman of the Delegation for relations with the Maghreb countries and the Arab Maghreb Union (including Libya) and a member of the Development Committee. After the 2009 European elections Hutchinson resigned from the European Parliament.

For his merits Hutchinson was awarded the title of Knight of the Crown and a commander of the Leopold II Order.
