Alain Pellet

Alain Pellet ( born January 2, 1947 in Paris ) is a French lawyer and internationally recognized expert in the field of international law, which was from 1974 to 1990 professor at the University of Paris-Nord and teaches at the University of Paris- Nanterre since 1990. He has been represented more than 20 different countries in more than 40 cases before the International Court of Justice, making it one of the world 's most active lawyers in this area. In recognition of his work he was accepted among other things the Legion of Honour and the Institut de Droit International, and received national Merit different countries and honorary doctorates from several universities.

Life

Alain Pellet was born in Paris in 1947 and became in 1968 a degree in law at the Sorbonne and in the same year, a Diploma in Public Administration at the Institut d' études politiques de Paris. At the Sorbonne, he also acquired a year later advanced degrees in political science and public law. In 1974 he won both the promotion and the right to teach the subjects of public law and political science.

He then served from 1974 to 1990 as a professor at the University of Paris -Nord, however, was initially seconded to 1977 to Algeria, where he worked at the Université Mentouri Constantine and from 1975 to 1977 and at the École Nationale d'Administration d' Alger. Between 1980 and 1999 he also taught at the Institut d' études politiques de Paris. Since 1990 he is professor at the University of Paris- Nanterre. He held beyond lectures as a visiting professor at several other universities at home and abroad as well as in the 1967, 1969 and 1971 as a lecturer at the Hague Academy of International Law.

From 1990 to 2011 Alain Pellet was a member of the International Law Commission of the United Nations, which he also initiated in 1997/ 1998. He has been represented more than 20 different countries in more than 40 cases before the International Court of Justice in The Hague and was also involved in two proceedings before the International Tribunal for the Law as well as in several arbitration of the Permanent Court of Arbitration and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes. From 1991 to 1993 he served on the Badinter Commission, which was established by the European Community to the clarification of legal issues that resulted from the breakup of Yugoslavia.

Alain Pellet is married and father of four children.

Awards

Alain Pellet since 1998 Chevalier of the French Legion of Honor and received the Knight's Cross in 1986 and 2007, the Officer's Cross of the Ordre des Palmes Académiques. In addition, he has received national Merit different countries, among others in 2006 with the Slovak Order of the White Double Cross. Since 2007 he is a member of the Institut de Droit International. The Brazilian Universidade Estácio de Sá (1998), the Hungarian University of Miskolc (2000) and the Russian Foreign Trade Academy (2002) awarded him an honorary doctorate.
