Alan Bible

Alan Harvey Bible ( November 10, 1909 in Lovelock, Nevada, † September 12, 1988 in Auburn, California ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party and Senator from 1954 to 1974 in the United States Senate for Nevada.

Bible completed his studies at the University of Nevada at Reno, and then attended law school at Georgetown University in Washington, which he completed in 1934.

From 1935 to 1938 Bible was a prosecutor of Story County in Nevada. In 1938 he was appointed Deputy Attorney General of the State. He held this office four years. From 1942 to 1950 he was a prosecutor Nevada.

After some time as a lawyer, he was in 1954 elected to the Senate of the United States after a seat for the term of office until January 3, 1957 had become vacant by the death of Pat McCarran. Bible in 1956, 1962 and 1968 respectively confirmed; in the election in 1974, he did not start. He represented Nevada in the U.S. Senate on 2 December 1954 until his resignation on 17 December 1974.

During his time in the Senate Bible was chairman of the " Senate Committee on the District of Columbia " (85 to 90 Senate ), the " Congress Joint Committee on Washington Metropolitan Problems" ( 85th and 86th Senate ) and the " U.Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship " ( 91st to 93rd Senate ).

Bible died on September 12, 1988 in Auburn, and was buried in Reno.
